Echoes of the Mind
In a partly interactive dance performance, the inner conflict of overthinking is brought to life through the combination of contemporary dance and real-time visuals. Echoes of the Mind creates a unique interplay between body, space, and digital art.
The visuals were created in TouchDesigner and projected onto fabric using three projectors and two Kinect sensors. Throughout the performance, the relationship between movement and visuals constantly shifts. It begins with a single thought that slowly grows around the protagonist's head, still responding to his movements as
if it can be controlled.
As he descends deeper into overthinking, he enters a literal spiral of thoughts. At this point, the interaction disappears and the visuals no longer respond to him. After reaching his lowest point, he struggles to break free, but every attempt only leads him deeper into his own mind until he finds himself trapped in a maze of recurring thoughts.
Only towards the end does he slowly regain control, reconnecting with the visuals as they once again respond to the movement of his hands.
